Clearwater Beach: Beachgoer's Paradise

Sun, sand, water sports, restaurants and award-winning beaches—Clearwater Beach has it all.

The votes have been tallied and the members of the world's largest online travel community have spoken—Clearwater Beach is among the best beaches in the country.

Known for its roughly three miles of snowy-white sand and serene Gulf water, Clearwater Beach received the TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Award and ranks at No. 20 on Trip Advisor’s list of the top 25-best beaches in the world. This only adds to its numerous accolades and honors including recognition from the Travel Channel and USA Today.

But what makes Clearwater Beach Florida’s top-ranked beach? As it turns out, the secret is a unique combination of sand, sun, water and fun unlike anywhere else in the country.

White Quartz Sand

Clearwater Beach is Florida’s best and most celebrated white-sand beach. White-sand is found throughout the Tampa Bay area but nowhere as soft as Clearwater. Velvety and glistening white, the fine, powdery sand reflects the Florida sun and doesn’t get too hot no matter the air temperature. So white, children often mistake it for snow. So fine, sandal-clad beachcombers find the sand squeaks when stepped upon. But perhaps its best feature is its softness and how forgiving the sand is, making it perfect for volleyball, skim boarding and relaxing along the shore.

Sunny Days Year-Round

With close to 250 sunny days each year, it’s always a great day at Clearwater Beach. The weather is simply impeccable, with highs averaging in the low 80s and lows in the high 60s and water temperatures roughly the same.

Warm Gulf Water

Have you ever waded into water as warm as the air? It is a feeling Clearwater Beach regulars know well. Cool and refreshing in the winter months and like bathwater in the summer, the inviting coastline where the Gulf of Mexico meets its end is shallow and calm. Families love the gradual slope of the sand beneath the knee to ankle-high waves—safe and ideal conditions for kids, toddlers and even babies to experience their first splash.

Beach Town Vibe

Clearwater Beach seems to have it all, with plentiful beaches, opportunities for water sports, fine restaurants and family-friendly lodgings. The sheer concentration of activities within walking distance from the beach is enough to fill an entire summer of fun. Yet, the destination manages to retain its small-town charm. Cozy beachside eateries like Frenchy’s are as popular with the locals as with visitors. The pedestrian-friendly beach walk promenade, that connects Pier 60 to public parking at the end of south beach, is a great place to take in the atmosphere and stunning views while perusing the shops, stalls and restaurants speckling the streetscape.

Pier 60 is the place to be when the sun goes down. Sunsets, a free, nightly arts and entertainment festival happening 365-days a year, takes over the pier and surrounding beaches for a street party of performances, crafts and cinema.
